Thaqalyn is an Arabic word, and it means “two weighty things.” The inspiration for our organization’s name comes from the tradition of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him and his family) in which he said:
“I am leaving behind me thaqalayn (two very weighty things) for you. So long as you will remain connected with them you will never go astray after my departure and they (the two things) are heavier than one another. One of them is the Book of Allah and it is a rope which hangs from the heavens to the earth and the other is my progeny, my Ahl al-Bayt. Doubtlessly they will never be separated from one another until they come to me at the side of the pond of Kauthar in Paradise.”
[1] Sayyid Ibne Tawoos has, in Taraif, narrated from Musnad of Ahmad bin Hanbal that Abu Saeed Khudri says that the Holy Prophet (S) said the mentioned tradition. This tradition has also been mentioned in numerous sources including Tirmidhi in his ‘Sahih Manaqib Ahlul-Bayt’. 2. Sahih Muslim 3. Hakim in ‘Mustadrak Sahihain’. 4. Ahmad ibn Hanbal in his Masnad. 5. al-Tabarani in his ‘al-Kabir’.
The foremost goal of Thaqalayn Islamic Society is to seek the good pleasure of Allah by obeying His Book, Prophet and the Ahl al-Bayt. This will be accomplished by educating members and the broader community by upholding and promoting the message of the Prophet, Quran and Ahl al-Bayt.
We actively promote cooperation and collaboration with the broader Muslim community, and we invite people from other religious backgrounds to better understand the teachings our religion, Holy Book, Prophet Muhammad (S) and the Ahl al-Bayt.
